The electromagnetic spectrum exists as waves of different frequencies and wavelengths. The energy, heat, and light from the sun flow away in the form of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Solar energy warms Earth, causes wind and weather, and sustains plant and animal life. Solar energy is constantly flowing away from the sun and throughout the solar system. Nuclear fusion by the PP chain reaction or CNO cycle releases tremendous amounts of energy in the form of waves and particles. Currently, less than two percent of the sun’s energy is created by the CNO cycle. The CNO cycle also converts hydrogen to helium, but relies on carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen (C, N, and O) to do so. In stars that are about 1.3 times bigger than the sun, the CNO cycle drives the creation of energy. The temperature for these stars is around 4 million degrees on the Kelvin scale (about 4 million degrees Celsius, 7 million degrees Fahrenheit). The PP chain reaction occurs in other stars that are about the size of our sun, and provides them with continuous energy and heat. In its core, the sun fuses about 620 million metric tons of hydrogen every second. This process, known as a PP (proton-proton) chain reaction, emits an enormous amount of energy. Fusion occurs when protons of hydrogen atoms violently collide in the sun’s core and fuse to create a helium atom. Solar energy is created by nuclear fusion that takes place in the sun. When the electric charges slow down in the filament to light the light bulb, light energy is created.ģ.ěatteries in a cell phone supply chemical energy to electric charges. The electric current moves from the wall outlet into the light bulb in the lamp supplying electrical energy. These moving charges provide electrical energy to the circuits in the car.Ģ.Ě lamp is plugged into a wall outlet. In a car battery, the chemical reaction creates an electron which has the energy to move in an electric current. Regardless of the starting form of energy, that energy is used to give electric charges energy of motion which is electrical energy.ġ. If windmill energy is used, the windmill itself turns the turbine blade which makes the generator create electrical energy. If hydroelectric energy is used, then the falling water is used to spin turbine blades, which turns the generator creating electrical energy. The steam is then used to turn a turbine blade which fires up a generator and gives the electric charges their energy. If nuclear energy is utilized, the energy released heats water into steam. Electrical energy is basically generated the same way regardless of the starting form of energy. The faster the ball travels, the more energy it has and it then has the ability to break the window. The ball represents an electric charge and if the ball is not thrown very fast, then it may simply not have enough energy to break the window. We can use the analogy of a ball being thrown at a window. The faster the electric charges are moving the more electrical energy they carry. Since the electric charges are moving, this is a form of kinetic energy. Electrical energy is energy that is caused by moving electric charges.
