![]() In this lesson you’ll learn how the storyboarding, pitching, feedback, and editorial processes work at Pixar, and you’ll start to apply these ideas to your own stories. ![]() Once the film is working in storyboard form, it moves on to Editorial, the department responsible for adding dialogue, music, and sound effects, and figuring out the timing for the entire film. Elements of a Good Story Good stories are generally interesting, unusual, provocative, serious, controversial, surprising, intriguing, or inspiring. Pixar goes through this over and over - storyboarding, pitching, getting feedback, re-boarding, and re-pitching - to hone in on the story they really want to tell. Storytelling is the use of stories or narratives as a communication tool to value, share, and capitalize on the knowledge of individuals. This helps the storyteller assess what is working about their story, and what is not. In the same field, marketing and advertising (Walter & Gioglio, 2014 Park, 2021 El-Desouky, 2020) shared their practice element of visual storytelling. After you pitch, you get feedback, which is basically hearing from the people you’re pitching to what they liked and didn’t like. There are seven elements of visual storytelling design, personalization, usefulness, personality, storytelling, share-worthiness, and real-time amplification. Pitching is the process of telling your story in very rough form, using storyboards or other rough imagery. The filmmaking team refines the films through the parts of their process called pitching and feedback. ![]() Pixar films take years to make, and the finished version you see in the theater may be very different from the way it was originally envisioned.
